I hope everyone is being careful and still doing tick checks while enjoying summer outdoor activities. Standard of care medical treatment for Lyme disease prevention from a tick bite is a course of doxycycline antibiotics. In many cases, patients feel significantly better from this alone.
There are issues w/ antibiotics though. It predisposes a patient to depression in the coming months, negatively impacts positive gut bacteria (microbiome) resulting in digestive and other issues. The parasitic organism (borrellia bergdorferi) that causes Lyme disease is often not fully eradicated by this approach. Many who only utilize antibiotic treatment after a tick bite report Lyme symptoms (ranging from body ache/pain, brain fog, chronic fatigue/lethargy, digestive issues, headaches, psycho-emotional challenges and more) months or years later and end up having to backtrack seeking more lengthy and expensive treatment protocols. So often, what guidance is available from the medical system is insufficient and patients struggle...
In cooperation with standard of care approaches, we use traditional and modern protocols and remedies designed to be rotated in stages to boost the body’s capacity to sustain immunity, fight parasitic proliferation and restore/protect the microbiome.
The companion remedies we use are designed to respect the unique circumstances of patients who are dealing with 'lingering pathogens' such as Lyme disease, relapsing fever, Lyme co-infections omitting herbal substances that can feed pathogens or cause Jarisch–Herxheimer reactions.
It goes w/ out saying that prevention is certainly best. And we recommend non-toxic essential oil based tick repellants rather than carcinogenics like permethrin etc… For those in need of guidance in post tick bite care and prevention, long term, late stage or even just suspected Lyme, we can help.
